Some of their dubbed hit movies ran successfully for more than 50 days in Tollywood. At one stage, Lakshmi Ganapati Films had more than 10 hit dubbed movies in a calendar year. With the fortunes made from these dubbed movies, Subramanyam did very few straight Telugu films.
The Downfall Of Sri Lakshmi Ganapati Films
The profit margins from the dubbed versions of Hollywood movies were very high in the early 2010s. The Hollywood movie dubbing producers from Hindi, Telugu and Tamil languages made windfall gains. This made the bigger Hollywood Studios like Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, DC, Marvel, Sony Entertainmens etc to directly dub and distribute their movies in three Indian languages namely Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
Entry Of Hollywood Studios Into Dubbed Movies Industry
The entry of these Hollywood studios was a big blow to the dubbing production houses like Sri Lakshmi Ganapati Films. They only had the chance to dub movies from smaller hollywood production houses. These movies became duds at the box office as audience didn’t show interest. Meanwhile, the dubbed movies from original Hollywood Studios attracted audience. These studios didn’t change the names in to local languages. But they used the original Hollywood movie name for all dubbed versions.
Change In Youth’s Language Preference
Surprisingly, Indian youth took a turn by showing their interest to watch a Hollywood movie in English itself. This is more commonly seen in Telugu states and Karnataka. Here the audience prefer to watch a Hollywood movie in English and a Bollywood movie in hindi language. The box office collections of Hollywood movie in these states is higher for English language than their dubbed version. Similarly, the Bollywood movie collections are higher in Hindi language than their dubbed language.
